Izi Thexton’s practice does not revolve around a single medium, but adapts to find appropriate,
concept-driven ones.
.
Obsessed with the material qualities of physical objects, her projects span from
publication
to
weaving
to
blacksmithing
and more. These analogue processes of hands-on making (particularly in
textiles
) further her material understanding and generate ideas. However, what underpins Izi’s practice is an aim to
highlight and facilitate discourse
around
a
need for change.
She uses her stance of designer-as-publisher not to speak
for people
, but
to
bring lesser-heard voices to the fore
and
challenge ingrained attitudes
.
She believes that using the design process as a form of research is enriched by collaboration and
a sense of play
.
